Matsuda Hironobu's Live Report: ONE OK ROCK Live at the Yokohama Stadium (Translation)

Konbanwa! At last! I finished the rough translation of Matsuda Hironobu's live report on ONE OK ROCK's concert at the Yokohama Stadium last September 13 and 14, 2014.  Please note that it may not reflect the exact translation of the entire article. The reason is because I slightly edited the text to make it easier for us to read but still tried my best to put it into proper context. If there are some corrections, kindly send us a private message so that we can further improve it. Thank you. :) ~Admin Shashin

Translation:

At the Yokohama Stadium, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, ONE OK ROCK has held a one-man live called “ONE OK ROCK 2014" Mighty Long Fall at Yokohama Stadium" on 13 and 14 September. Showing off the performance of a masterpiece, attended by enthusiastic audience of about 60,000 people, to suit both days.

From the "Start Walking The World Tour" in 2012, ONE OK ROCK has energetically conducted activities and tour overseas. For the first time after a long time, it was a solo performance in the open-air stadium and raised expectations among the audience in Japan.

The first day was blessed with a fine weather which continued until the second day. Image was projected onto a giant LED screen that was installed on the stage. When it came to curtain time, the venue was wrapped into a huge cheer. Tomoya (Dr) appeared on stage and started his powerful drumming, and appearing from both sides of the stage, Ryota (B) and Toru (G) continued. Then, Taka (Vo.) showed up from the center of the stage after the opening of the curtain and said “Hello once again!” then, sang the first song “Answer is Near.”  The venue livened up at once as soon as the band performed the speedy and powerful number from the “Deeper Deeper” to “Nothing Helps.” For the fourth song, “Let’s take it someday,” the nearly 30,000 audience were jumping, and the Yokohama Stadium shook greatly.

Taka’s vocal was fully sensual as he sang the melody of the 5th track “C.h.a.o.s.m.y.t.h.”, a ballad emotional rock, and made a magnificent start with a clean arpeggio. “Clock Strikes” followed as Track 6, then, Taka asked the audience to “Do continue and sing with me,” and the venue was wrapped in a large chorus. Taka disappeared from the stage and a thrilling session of Tomoya, Toru and Ryota started at once. It left the audience more excited and in a state of breathless interest.

Then, Taka came back to the stage and start the impassioned MC. He declared in a strong message, “Frankly, I’m not that someone who is educated but, I said to myself that I need to accomplish something! So, more than anyone else, I believed in myself  that I can do it,”  and [the band] performed the music “69” and “Mikansei Kōkyōkyoku.”  As the night approaches, the venue was wrapped in a festive atmosphere.

On the 10th Track, they played the theme song of the movie “Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Fire Edition” which is  “Mighty Long Fall.” The stage director accelerated from here and flame rose from the front stage, as the edgy sound reverberate with an intense strobe. For a moment, the audience became dead calm after the greatness of the remainder of the performance was over.

After that, they performed the “Living Dolls.”  Under Taka’s instruction, the audience lighted each of their smartphone, and the stadium was enveloped with the myriad of light. Taka said gently, “The feeling that I want to change darkness into light, I think today, everyone has been doing it with a lot of thought. But with us together, I am standing on the stage with a great feeling.” He also said “I want to sing “Be the light.”

In the MC, the subsequent scene to deepen communication with the audiences was conspicuous.  Also, a woman who came all the way from Kagoshima was raised to the stage and was hugged by the members. In addition, the entire audience was challenged to “wave” as requested by Toru. It admirably succeeded and the unity between the audience also seemed to have strengthened more. For the past few years, ONE OK ROCK expanded their reach to a higher level in the overseas stage and their popularity rapidly expanded as well. As Taka said, it was a moment that suggests there is an underlying trust that is unchanging for the fans.

From the 13th track, a special stage was laid in the center vicinity of the stadium, and the acoustic live started. Ryota and Taka performed a cover of one of their most favourite songs “A Thousand Miles” by Vannessa Carlton, `Yokubou ni michita seinen-dan' from their major debut album “Zeitakubyou,” and the acoustic version of “Heartache” which is the theme song of the last chapter edition of “Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends” that has been released on September 13.

When the band returned to their music style again, this time, high tension followed all at once. ONE OK ROCK unfolded on stage the most impressive performance of  “Decision,” “Re:make,” “Koi no Aibou Kokoro no Kupido,” “NO SCARED,” and ”Kanzen kankaku dreamer.”  The overwhelming centripetal force of Taka’s masculine voice, and sense of scale of the band, brought the entire stadium an exceedingly intense feeling.  Also, the performance would not be inferior in any way when side by side with the legendary band overseas such as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Aerosmith.

After listening carefully to the masterpiece “Wherever you are,” and Taka went up on stage again and shout “Well, I’ll go from here!” and the members performed in response to the encouragement of Encore singing the popular song “Kimishidai Ressha.”  And lastly, Taka said “When I was told to please sing this at the arena, the song is about trying to start something which at the same time was over. [Note: This means that it’s the last song]”  To those who are curious, they sang “The Beginning” and afterwards, he said to the audience, “Please try to start something you want to do on your own whether the outcome is negative or not.” Then, the Yokohama Stadium performances spanning two-days closed the curtain.

I feel that through their activities overseas, ONE OK ROCK as an entertainer further leveled up.

Since it has been scheduled to be on-air at WOWOW on Sunday, October 26, check out also the intense live there.

~"Just absolutely, do not break this band and it should not be dissolved. If someone will say to the other that he wants to quit, I'm going to beat [punch] him down (laughs)."

"Ryota-kun, you're in a dance school since kindergarten? Now because [of the band], I said "Oh is it?"

~"I wanted it to become a big band somehow. We believe in things such as working earnestly towards that dream always while being around with the same people. Like a [proud] father, I was watching it happen all the way from last year."

~"In a sense, I continue to stay. This is what I do to go on living while protecting something because I thought, we honestly need to protect the band and I really hate it if we do not take the next challenge."

~"I'm thankful to the band for making today's style possible. I heard that you should think about your whereabouts because in case you're always just childish, it's said to be dragging/drifting. So, like an older brother is not all ahead, I mean, I'm a typical second son. "

I had to support various people and really come up here.

Thank you.

We do jamming all the time. Please listen by all means!

The other day, I went to the beauty salon with Mr. Toru (° - °)

Toru-san, I Basshibashi Ya! (Note: I Basshibashi Ya ~ is a sound effect for slapping or smacking something or someone.

Warped Tour 2014.06.28 (Rough translation of Tomoya's blog entry by the OORPh Admin)

Rough translation of Tomoya's new blog entry by the OORPh Admin:

Warped Tour

2014.06.28

Recently, I’m feeling a lot of blackouts.

Low blood pressure at all times. This is Tomoya.

Now, late update!

Long time no see.

A little while ago, Warped tour has started and we can say that,

we drive (to bring the concert tour) day by day while living in the bus.

It was also physically hard, but I mostly enjoy it.

Get up →bus arrival →

(I’m thrilled and I do not know until the day or what!) Time of production is informed →
Move → bus to live ↑

It is such a great feeling!

Because of the outdoor, everyday feels like a festival.
Stage is also full. There are also some stalls.

We go and see various bands, have a BBQ night with everyone, and we have to enjoy and live outside. And above all, I am motivated.

Full of cool bands, cool drummers.

I must work harder!

While at this point the Warped tour is halfway done, yesterday was my birthday.

The 27th, 27-year-old.
It seems that it’s a golden birthday among the birthdays.
Thanks to everyone. Thank you.
This will be 1-Year Golden!

Okay, okay, let’s begin! !

Was thankful.
Happiness.

Nanban pickled, thank you ... it brings out even more this taste.

And, the next day.
We went to Natori.

It is only one day, but I have participated in volunteer activities for the earthquake [survivors].

(Photo 20110528_071021_2)

I only moved the car a little,
I was shocked that the scenery is too different.

The scene you've seen many times in the photograph.
If you really look, it’s not the same at all,
Tears did not stop.

It got me thinking about various things.

Enter the team to carry on the local materials needed, such as removal of rubble, I was allowed to help until early afternoon.

They are very warm people. I was able to help everyone comfortably.

(Photo 110528_130310_2)

Thank you!

Okinawa next car. Final car.
It’s really early. I am lonely.

All because I was hit!
Come on! Damn!

Bye bye!

Noisy ... (Translation of Tomoya's blog entry posted on 2009.12.31)

Translation of Tomoya's blogpost (by OORPh Admin):

Noisy ...
2009.12.31

Well. Sleepy.

The end of the year is approaching.
...

I’m no good in housecleaning, this New Year!? (Laughs)

As soon as the recording ends,
I went back to our hometown today for the homecoming!!

It was too fun.
I forced schedule my sleep time for 1 hour (laughs)

This year, the annual meeting of the last sunrise was held.  (° - °)

Instead of the first sunrise...
While watching the sunrise of last year,
We happily looked back at the year together.
This meeting, now in its fourth year, is not freaky anymore.

This time, I decided to climb the mountain again.

In addition to the serious meeting the previous day, I made a kite flying during the day.
Moreover, we called the huge thing as handmade octopus.
Now that you’ve mentioned it, I wonder if I’m already in Tsukko.

And the 30th is coming.

Weather ... rain! ! (Laughs)
Battle of the kite flying was executed beautifully!
Not boring after all!
No need for the meeting (laughs)

(Photo 1)
At home that night,
Practiced table tennis, mahjong, darts then,

To the summit.

Whew!
I finally arrived.
Alright.

There ...?

Weather, cloudy! (Laughs)

It was complete this time.
However, unwillingly, while telling the kind of thing you want to try, you welcomed the closure safely.

Yeah, I've done good this year!
And will do my best next year (° - °)

I wish you a Happy New Year!

Yes, here at SC-7 stage at last! This is Tomoya.

Sorry for the delayed update.
A little more careful again this year.
Even so, I have a feeling this December is so fast I wonder why it is what it is. Too fast.

Looking back, it was also this year that we are really doing tours, put out albums, oh, overseas tours... and summer festivals. Finally, Taiwan was fun and the best!

Thank you, really!

I think that it is a year of new challenges and not so much next year.

The tour was over and I was ready all the time.

I'm looking forward to the RADIO CRAZY. Today isn’t over!

Two remaining Live for this year!
I can’t wait to give my 100%!

Bye Bye!

Primal Footmark 2014 Special Movie #2

**********************************

Note: Here's the rough translation. Apparently, my sister was quite in a good mood last night so she helped me with this. However, this is probably the rare occasion that I could post here the translation of a PF movie. Lolz! Thank you for your kind understanding, dear Friends! \(^o^)/

**************************************

Rough Translation from my Onee-chan (slightly edited by me—Admin 写真撮影):

Taka: Welcome to all the viewers of the Primal Footmark, long time no see, here is ONE OK ROCK!
The Rest: Welcome!

Taka: Probably many of you already know, but we came out with a documentary collection of recordings from our last year's tour of Europe and Asia.
The rest are like revives.

Taka: This is how you say it. Put simply, it happened to earlier edit of the DVD which are reminiscent of documentaries, but for the first time, we feel that it is so real and they really will be able to enjoy this in the cinema, isn't it?

Besides, well, before anything else, the audience we met was different than before, we met with the things that we've never had to deal with, headed toward our steps to countries previously where they were out there when we played concerts ... we have pictures to these places, and we really had a great time! This route has become for us a good motivation.

And essentially, we also wanted to show our fans in Japan and [that they] will be able to watch this on film, which comes up on May 16!

[Ryota: short applause]

Taka: Well, those who already know us, liked us.

The Rest: Yeah!

Taka: But those who haven't seen us, you probably still won't like us, I suppose. That's exactly what we feel. Well, with all my heart we want everyone who can view this video to say that it is great, so be sure to, to especially to those who have time, to take this opportunity and together with the others who like ONE OK ROCK, just this one day, forget manners. Forget, no? This has to do with never forget, but it would have been nice if someone just stood up and do this, no?
Ryota: Well, that would be super!

Taka: Get up and do this manner? Kind of like doing "Yes!"

[Tomoya and Ryota laughing]

Taka: If the viewers had the impression that they are at a concert then I'd be very happy. Lastly, if you yourself haven't watched it, may be later you would want to quietly watch. Make sure all too well and at the same time have fun! That's all! This is ONE OK ROCK. Bye Bye!

Ryota: Bye Bye

One OK Rock during the promotion of Niche Syndrome -->

Taka: Making this album, the Niche Syndrome, is truly inspiring. The people changed our lives. We are thankful for them because they inspired us to make this. As a band, we consult each other while creating our album. After all of us agree with the details, the result is this album. We somehow felt a certain fear while doing this. This is about the people's perception, their pains, their surroundings. We ask their opinions. Because of these people, we pursued to finish this.

Toru: Many chances come our way and we are inspired because of these chances.

Tomoya: In our last tour, all the talented bands and even our favorites gathered together and we told ourselves, we can do it, too.

Ryota: This generation is different in such a way that they are more energetic and so we thought, our band should give all our best to make our music bigger and livelier to keep up with the crowd.

Toru: The generation today varies and so we have to create new things also.

Taka: Even the 50 years old people can relate to the music in our album.

Ryota: Everyone has their own music preference that makes them sad or happy. Music is really important to everyone regardless of who you are.

Taka: There are people who do not appreciate music but acknowledge the importance of music. There are some who appreciate it whether it is sad or happy. They believe in music.

Toru: There are different kinds of music. There are different kinds of listeners with different kinds of beliefs.

Tomoya: Recording music is sometimes difficult but sometimes happy. But whether it is difficult and happy, we continue doing it.

All of them: NO MUSIC, NO LIFE!

2012.04.17

I became a 24-year-old at last! ( Laughs)
At 24, I stopped feeling like I’m a 16-year-old anymore. (^ o ^)
I would like to take again this good opportunity to thank everyone!
There are many things that changed in me, including good as well as bad, and the best thing that happened in my life was when this band was formed!
To the staff and my favorite co-members who support me everyday, they are all important to me.
And...friends are irreplaceable!
More than anything else, thanks to the fans who regularly root for ONE OK ROCK.
I thank you sincerely!
I thank you very much!
I’m thinking that I’ve really come this far as a free man simply because there was support from people around me.
[But] still, I have a lot of dreams that must be fulfilled,
In order to leave no regrets in my life,
One by one, I will continue to make my dreams come true!
From ONE OK ROCK, nice to meet you in the future !
Thank you very much everyone! And [I] sincerely love everyone!

LA! NY!
2014.02.21

CROSS × BEATS is too interesting . Headphones recommended. This is Tomoya.

How are you guys?
I'm really sorry for the late update.

This year, we have been busy since dawn doing songwriting and recording. Each day was quite substantial. Well, the other day .

We have been live in NY and LA!
Live in the United States for the first time. There was also a little anxiety from it since we performed live in festivals since the end of the year. And if you think about it, I enjoyed everything!
It was the best time.
In NY, I feel terrific and was No. 1 especially by everyone’s intense concentration.
Such was over. If you notice in the recent years, it was the live that is outright most mysterious.

To everyone who came,
Thank you, really!

Recording continues today!
We are seriously creating songs.
We all been looking forward to!

Bye bye!

ONE OK ROCK Live in Bangkok, Thailand (This is not a live report)

ONE OK ROCK Live in Bangkok, Thailand (This is not a live report)
24 November 2013 at 00:18

No. I won't tell you the flow of One Ok Rock's concert in Thailand. Not even the set list. I won't tell you how the fans lined up patiently from 2 to 6pm before the start of the concert. I won't tell you about the new friendships we made during our stay in Thailand. I won't tell you what words we signed at the tarpaulin prepared by Thai fans for One Ok Rock.

What happened there was almost similar to what happened in other countries that were lucky enough to witness the band's amazing live performance with only a bit difference in terms of the special gifts / items being thrown at the stage. For example, in Thailand, a Muay Thai boxer shorts with Toru's name was thrown at the stage and fans were able to see Ryota's sexy naked abs. Things like that.

I won't explain to you guys how we fans were jumping like kangaroos and screaming our hearts out while singing almost all the songs with Taka. I won't tell you how much we fervently wanted to catch Tomoya's drumsticks, Toru's guitar pick as well as Taka, Ryota and Toru's water bottles. By the way, I won't tell you how much we wanted to especially catch Toru's water bottle because he drank his water first before throwing it to the audience. I won't even tell you how much we love to pinch Tomoya's cute naked (a bit flabby) abs. No, I won't tell you that, my dear friends.

It was all a dream.

But, when we first heard the soft strumming of Toru's guitar and felt the vibrations of Ryota's bass and Tomoya's drums like a heartbeat, I suddenly woke up from that dream as if thunder and lightning struck me. I felt my salty tears trickled down my sweaty cheeks.

This is what I wish to tell all of you — the dream, our dream of watching One Ok Rock's performance in person — turned into a reality.

One Ok Rock was there at the stage. Flesh and blood.

Taka holding the red mic and pouring out all of his emotions while singing;Ryota in his naked glory, jumping, turning and singing while playing his bad ass bass guitar; Tomoya and his smiling almond-shaped eyes, intensely beating his drums as if it was his last performance here on earth, and Toru, in all his pointless handsomeness, switching from one guitar to another for various songs(he used I think 5 guitars that day) and doing his routine like a real pro — turning like a whirlwind and air kicking while amazingly strumming his electric guitar…

Nope. It wasn't a dream alright.
